Advance course

After the basic course, it’s time to start flying properly:

Ready to take your flying to the next level?

In the advanced course, students perform 50 altitude flights under the supervision of instructors and follow exercises prescribed by the Civil Aviation Agency. Instructors guide students via radio from takeoff to safe landing.

Meeting dates are flexible and arranged based on student availability, with weather forecasts announced two days before each session. The Vipava Valley offers safe conditions for the advanced course, with its proximity to the sea ensuring suitable weather for multiple jumps in a short period.

The course is split into practical and theoretical parts:

PRACTICAL PART:

  • Gradual introduction to height,
  • flying from various airfields in Slovenia,
  • landing manoeuvres,
  • flights over the entire parachute speed range,
  • active flight exercises,
  • rapid descent manoeuvres,
  • emergency simulations,
  • more demanding take-off techniques,
  • side sailing,
  • centring the thermal column and
  • flight technique.

THEORETICAL PART

  • Aerodynamics,
  • flight technique,
  • meteorology,
  • extreme situations,
  • constructions and materials,
  • airspace and
  • thermal sailing.

After completing 50 jumps and theoretical work, the student registers for the paragliding pilot exam, which they take with the Civil Aviation Agency.

Frequently Asked Questions

With the start of the advanced course, we strive for the student to acquire their equipment as soon as possible. With our experience, we help the student to find suitable equipment for him. If this is not possible, it is possible to rent equipment from the school. The rental price is 5 € / day.

Prescribed package required by the pilot to fly:
– helmet certified for paragliding (estimated price is 100 €),
– flight seat (estimated price of the used one is 200 €, new one is 500 – 700 €),
spare parachute (estimated price of the used one is 200 – 300 €, new is 450 €) and
– paraglider (estimated price of the used one is 800 – 1000 €, new is from 1500 € onwards).

The advanced course takes place mostly over the weekend. If the time of daylight allows us to do so, we can also arrange for jumps in the afternoon during the week.

The advanced course takes place exclusively at registered airfields. For most of the course, we use the Lijak pri Nova Gorica airfield and the Kovk nad Ajdovščino airfield.
According to the regulation, during the advanced course we have to fly from 5 different registered airfields in Slovenia. Therefore, during the course we also visit other known and suitable airfields in the vicinity.

The student must have general fitness. If the student has any health problems, he must consult an instructor before starting the course.
